Darağaç is a non-profit art collective located in Izmir, Turkey which is located in an ex-industrial zone. Darağaç hosts workshops and artist residents. Darağaç is also the name of a group of exhibitions that have developed and matured within an atmosphere of intense dialogue and discussion between the artists, artisans and the residents of the neighborhood. During my visits, I’ve observed how the art collective transformed the neighborhood into a space where young artists can show their work and create a common discourse with the community they are now a part of. Without any hesitation, I would say Darağaç is a rare gem of my hometown..

LuRecords, collaborated with Darağaç and The Aperion Collectives to create The Sounds of Darağaç,  which is an auditory memory project documenting sounds that are produced by the dynamic lifestyle in a small auto industrial zone, surrounded by the neighborhood’s daily hustle and bustle. A sound library was created that includes the sounds of the shopkeepers and their shops such as the oil shop, the car painter, the tea shop, the betting dealer, the meatball shop, and motorbike shop.  In the Sounds of Darağaç, rap artists Da Poet, Kayra and electronic music producers Aleksandir and Emre Can Swim combine the auditory memory of the neighborhood with their own songs.

This EP will never be streamed but offered for sale both digitally and together with cassette format with QR code embedded.  With each purchase, 50% will go to the Darağaç Collective, so they could use this resource for their upcoming street art project.
